Introducción: el entorno es un factor clave en el desarrollo de conductas alimentarias saludables y es un hecho que, para los niños, los padres juegan un papel fundamental dentro del mismo; por tanto, la adquisición de conductas alimentarias saludables a temprana edad depende de la interacción de varios factores inculcados por los tutores. Determinamos la asociación entre la obesidad infantil y los hábitos alimenticios de los cuidadores primarios en el sector Villa David, municipio Baní, provincia Peravia, durante el período mayo – julio de 2025; el patrón nutricional familiar; la distribución del Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) del niño y su cuidador primario y analizamos si existe un mayor riesgo de obesidad infantil en relación con patrones dietéticos no saludables en los cuidadores primarios.
Metodología: se realizó un estudio tipo observacional, retrospectivo, transversal y analítico. La herramienta de recolección de datos incluyó un formulario elaborado por los asesores y autores.
Resultados: dentro de los 103 niños estudiados, un 57.30 % presentaron normopeso, mientras un 42.7 % resultaron ser obesos. Por otro lado, un 40 % de los cuidadores primarios resultaron ser obesos.
Conclusión: en la comunidad de Villa David, el normopeso figuró como la tendencia del estado nutricional de la población pediátrica, seguida por la obesidad. No se pudo establecer una relación estadísticamente significativa entre los hábitos alimenticios de los cuidadores primarios y el IMC de los menores de edad.
Introduction: the environment is a key factor in the development of healthy eating behaviors, and it is a fact that, for children, parents play a fundamental role within it; therefore, the acquisition of healthy eating behaviors at an early age depends on the interaction of several factors instilled by caregivers. We determined the association between childhood obesity and the eating habits of primary caregivers in the Villa David sector, Baní municipa- lity, Peravia province, during the period May – July 2025; the family nutritional pattern; the distribution of Body Mass Index (BMI) of the child and their primary caregiver; and analyzed whether there is a higher risk of childhood obesity in relation to unhealthy dietary patterns in primary caregivers.
Methodology: an observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, and analytical study was conducted. The data collection tool included a form prepared by the advisors and authors.
Results: among the 103 children studied, 57.30% had normal weight, while 42.7% were obese. On the other hand, 40% of primary caregivers were obese.
Conclusion: in the Villa David community, normal weight appeared as the predominant trend in the nutritional status of the pediatric population, followed by obesity. A statistically significant relationship could not be established between the eating habits of primary caregivers and the BMI of minors.
